The Velveteen Rabit, Margery Williams

“When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
– The Skin Horse
Welcome to day 7 of my 12 Reads of Christmas series, where I’m posting the things I like to read over the festive period every day from Christmas Day until Twelfth Night (6 January). Today I’m taking a look back at some of my childhood reads.
The Velveteen Rabbit was a beautiful story to read as a child and remember now as an adult. I still have my own special soft toy from when I was little, as you can see above. My little green hippo (I know you can hardly tell as he’s so well-loved) is called Harry and in typical 90s style he’s full of beans – and he was far more important to me than any Beanie Baby could be. This book reminds me of being little and not going anywhere without Harry attached to me.
Share below your childhood soft toys! What is their name and do you still have them? Do they have any war wounds like Harry’s missing eye?
